Marchesa S/S 2013

Red carpet faves Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig showed their Marchesa Spring/Summer 2013 collection Wednesday afternoon in a hall at Grand Central Station. The collection featured gorgeous draped, sari-inspired gowns in rich brocades and paisleys with tulle under-skirts. Cocktail dresses embroidered with gold leaf or shimmying with silk fringe and lacey, bejeweled tunic tops worn with cropped pants. The color palette included a very rich chartreuse, garnet, fuchsia, coral, and, of course, pink!

Badgley Mischka S/S 2013

For their Spring 2013 collection, Badgley and Mischka were inspired by a 1935 film version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” With a soft palette of blush, ivory, and lilac, the collection included "springlike fabrics, but with depth to them," explained Mischka backstage. Lots of tulle and chiffon, for example.

Among the more interesting fabrics was a "hologram tweed" - a shimmery tweed used both in a casual pant, paired with an ivory organza bustier, and in a jacket, paired with an organza and chiffon skirt.

The design duo who are mostly known for their evening-wear also featured a filmy celadon-colored tulle+organza gown, and another breathtaking coral peach lace and chiffon dress that flowed into a filmy cape at the back.

Oscar de la Renta S/S 2013

At the Osar de la Renta SS'13 we saw the new trend of the mid-calf-length skirt and some of the most ravishing lace pieces to ever hit the runway, including examples in thick cotton, tape-work, and an imaginative re-embroidery of dark ribbons in an abstract scribble motif. Amongst the airy ball gowns and sleek evening sheath dresses he showed a playful quartet of brilliant faille evening shorts, one that included an ostrich-fronded peplum, another with a slash-neck top crusted with bright colored, shiny-petalled plastic gardenias.

Staying true to his homeland, the Dominican designer threw some Caribbean seasoning into the mix, with an upbeat palette of watermelon pink, sunshine yellow, and parrot green. These solids were mixed with vibrant Madras cotton plaids, slashed to ribbons to create multitiered pencil skirts.
